Career Opportunity: Head of Risk (Fintech / Emerging Markets)

I am looking for an experienced and strategic Head of Risk to join a rapidly scaling, credit-led mobile bank. Our client is a well-funded leader in the African fintech space, backed by top-tier global investors.

As the Head of Risk, you will be a key member of the leadership team, directly responsible for balancing aggressive growth with a robust and sustainable risk framework.

We need a leader with a specific background:

• 10-15 years in credit risk, with a primary focus on unsecured consumer loans within a Fintech retail bank, or NBFC environment.
• Prior experience as a Head of Risk of a lending product line is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to build and execute risk strategies using advanced analytics, including NPV modelling, A/B testing, and impairment forecasting.
• Proven success in defining collections and fraud prevention strategies.

Their risk function operates from Johannesburg, South Africa, leveraging deep expertise from SA's banking “credit-risk” industry stalwarts. You'll drive the risk strategy for a lending platform processing loans daily across Nigeria, India & beyond.

This role is based in Johannesburg with a current 65% hybrid operating model.
